Daily News: Teen Fighting For Life Following Second Shooting

Philadelphia Daily News reports David Satchell’s tragic story.

A Frankford teen who spent the last two weeks recovering from two gunshot wounds was struck by more bullets yesterday outside his home in a predawn shooting that also left a another man wounded.

Now David Satchell, 19, is fighting for his life at Frankford Hospital's Torresdale Division, where he was in the intensive-care unit in critical condition, a nursing supervisor said.

The bloody scene was deja vu for Satchell, who was shot twice in the lower right arm on Bridge Street near Duffield on June 30 as he walked to a nearby Chinese restaurant about 6:10 p.m., police and his mother said.

Baer Laments Political Handwringing

John Baer advocates new solution for Philadelphia violence.

I think I've figured out the politicians' answer to Philly gun violence - one task force a month.

But if the time and money spent on task forces, hearings, commissions and summits were directed at, say, job initiatives and law enforcement, maybe we end what we have now - one-political-nonanswer-a-month.

Inquirer Recalls City Under Fire

Philadelphia Inquirer chronicles violent thirty minutes.

Even by Philadelphia standards, three people shot to death and five others wounded by gunfire within about half an hour is a particularly violent stretch.

Four unrelated incidents left a bloody trail across the city, stretching from the Southwest to the Northeast, between 11:19 and 11:52 p.m. Monday.

With the slaying toll at 201 by sunrise yesterday, this year's homicide rate is at least 3.65 percent higher than it was at the same time last year - and last year's rate was the highest since 1997, when more than 400 people were killed.

"It has to stop," captain Benjamin Naish said. "We continue to place resources where the shootings are happening, but we need people to take more responsibility."

Raj Denounces Terrorist Bombing

Raj Peter Bhakta, candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania's 13th District, issued a strong denunciation of the train bombings carried out in Bombay Tuesday evening.

"Our war on terror and India's war on terror are one in the same," said Raj. "Our peaceful and democratic ally has endured the terrorism of radical Islamists for too long. I am deeply proud of the friendship our two nations have recently developed."

Raj said he was profoundly troubled, as an Indian-American and as someone whose grandmother and other family members live in India, by the violence that has distressed the region for so many years.

"This has been a dark day for freedom loving nations around the world," Raj said. "India is where my father came from. It will always be a big part of who I am."

The rapid occurrence of multiple bombings has been a common characteristic of attacks in India by Islamic militants from the disputed Kashmir region. "A strong India is necessary for world peace," said Raj. "With material aid and moral support, this growing capitalist democracy can become a major bulwark in the war against terrorism."

Challenge Launch, Snowballing, & Changing Everything

Earlier this morning, Raj for Congress launched the Joe Biden 7-11 Challenge. From the moment this initiative began, the energy level has increased exponentially.

It is not the result of a momentary burst. It began last Thursday with Raj’s appearance on the Hugh Hewitt show. The momentum then rose on Friday and Saturday as blogs including the Iowa Voice and the Urban Grind reprinted Raj’s reaction. The crescendo occurred this afternoon as donors both large and small took up the challenge.

This thing is snowballing. Friday night Raj was on Philadelphia radio and again on Monday morning.

That is our campaign. If you have ever been in politics, you know this is the time that is special. Each day, as we enter and exit the office, we know we are creating something special.

I have always believed in People Powered Politics and this medium. I have always known in my heart of hearts that the internet and blogs could and will change everything.

The Joe Biden Challenge

"You can't go into a 7-Eleven or into a Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking." -Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden.
7-6-06

"These ridiculous, callous and insensitive comments would simply be laughable if they weren't coming from a Democratic presidential candidate," said Congressional Candidate Raj Peter Bhakta. "You'd never know from listening to Biden that Indian Americans have contributed to this country other than making a mean cup of coffee."

But don't look to the mainstream media to cover Biden's outrageous remark. It's been up to regular Americans; talk radio and blogs to inform the people.

This is not the first time the mainstream media has covered up for Democrats. Raj pointed out that in 2004, Senator John Kerry referred to Sikhs as terrorists and Senator Hillary Clinton jokingly referred to Mahatma Gandhi as a gas station owner.

In response to Senator Biden's callous remarks, the Raj for Congress campaign is asking you for $7.11.

Let's show Biden and the mainstream media that we're paying attention and we won't stand for intolerance from either side of the aisle. Your small donation will send a strong message.

These donations will help spread our positive message and elect more open-minded people into the United States Congress

Far Away, Favorable People, & Finding Noah’s Ark

Prior to beginning our door-to-door, we knew that homes were far apart in Montgomery County. We didn’t know that we would have to drive to each home.

As we went around with the Republican Party survey (who were sponsoring the event), we recognized many voters who would support Raj. One Raj supporter’s home was quite interesting. As we proceeded down the long driveway, I looked to my left and saw a very old Victorian home. My eyes then discovered a huge ark. Honestly, I thought it was Noah’s Ark. Needless to say, it was very impressive.

The woman who lived there was very nice and even requested a Raj For Congress yard sign.

Right In Philly Endorses Raj

In conjunction with their relaunch, Right In Philly officially endorsed Raj Peter Bhakta. Their endorsement praises Raj as "a man that truly wants to do good for the community where he was born and lives."

I had the opportunity to meet Raj and shake his hand at the Lawncrest 4th of July Parade. A parade he was excluded from because of Schwartz's presence. While he was beating the street, I saw a man with drive, but I had the opportunity to look into his eyes, and saw a genuineness of a man that truly wants to do good for the community where he was born and lives. For all these reasons, I fully endorse and support Raj Peter Bhakta for his election to 13th U.S. Congressional District.
