Times of India Analyzes Raj’s Demonstration

The Times of India discusses Raj on the border.

In the upcoming US elections, illegal immigration and border security is not exactly the unnoticed elephant in the room, but an Indian-American aspirant for Congress chose to use pachyderms to show just how porous the American border has become.

Raj Bhakta, a Philadelphia native who is running for Congress from Eastern Pennsylvania's 13th District, hired three elephants and a six-piece mariachi band, and splashed through the Rio Grande River that borders the United States and Mexico to prove that border security has broken down.

RHCP Blog Shares Raj’s Opinion

Red Hot Cuppa Politics salutes Raj’s illustration.

Of course, the elephant and the mariachi band is a campaign stunt and a successful one. But I do agree with Bhakta. "..."If I can get an elephant led by a mariachi band into this country, I think Osama bin Laden could get across with all the weapons of mass destruction he could get into this country ..."

Click to the CoalitionBlog for the latest and freshest on Illegal immigration Reform. And here's the link to Bhakta's website, I hope he wins his race.

Max Redline Acclaims Raj’s Creativity

Max Redline requests security upgrade.

I mentioned this the other day, but it bears repeating. We need to beef up security along the southern border and everybody knows it.  This is simply one of the most creative ways of pointing that out that I've seen.

Fundamental Lack of Control

Rhymes With Right Blog lauds Raj’s demonstration.

Yeah, it was a publicity stunt, but I think it indicates the fundamental lack of control we have of the border region, and the resulting lack of security.

The only response from authorities was the arrival of the US Department of Agriculture, which seized the elephants because they were in a quarantine zone. The beasts wee released after they were sprayed for ticks.

Incredible!

Borderwatch Mocks Border Security

Borderwatch recounts Raj on the border.

So circus producer James Plunkett was hired for the photo shoot and provided three elephants. [Raj] Bhakta said, "the elephant never made landfall into Mexico, but I tell you something, he could have made 15 laps back and forth, but no one showed up."

Plunkett said his crew entered the Boca Chica beach area in Texas and remained for about an hour. The Border Patrol finally showed up & alerted the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the elephants were detained and sprayed for ticks then released.

It was not reported whether they were looking for American ticks or undocumented ticks.

Blue Crab Boulevard Condemns Border Security

Blue Crab Boulevard reprints Raj on the border.

Ay-yi-yi-yi. A Republican candidate for Congress had the idea of seeing how good border security was with Mexico. So he sent one of his elephants into the Rio Grande (he had three, after all) accompanied by a six piece mariachi band to see if anyone noticed. They did eventually, but it took quite a while.

A pretty bad black eye for border security. Such as it is.

“I Came Away Utterly Shocked”

Free Internet Press reports Raj on the border.

After his first trip to South Texas, a Pennsylvania congressional candidate was back home Wednesday sharing quite a tale, having chased an undocumented immigrant on foot one day and strolled the bank of the Rio Grande with three elephants and a blaring mariachi band the next.

"Border security is a major issue in my district and I wanted to see firsthand the situation and I came away utterly shocked at the state of insecurity that our border is in," said Raj Peter Bhakta, 30, a Philadelphia Republican whose previous claim to fame was being fired from the reality TV show "The Apprentice."
